段落句群是由两个以上的句子组成的语义整体,构成段落的各个句子,结构上紧密联系,意义上有向心性,并以一定的语言手段组合起来。在商务汉译英过程中,威海翻译公司对于段落句群的翻译要注意段落的内在逻辑及结构的可调整性。具体翻译方法有:
1. 顺译法
在翻译时,可根据汉语的表达顺序和逻辑关系,逐句翻译。
例1 我方刚刚收到上海商检局的检验报告,证明所有苹果汁每桶少1〜5千克,总共减少3000千克。由于果汁完好无损,显而易见,苹果汁在装运前就不够重量。在这种情况下,我方不得不向贵方提出850人民币的索赔,另加检验费用。
译文:We have just received the Survey Report from Shanghai Commodity Inspection Bureau evidencing that all drums of apple juice weigh short by 1 to 5 kilogram at least, totaling 3000 kilogram. As the drums were intact,it is obvious that apple juice was short in weight before shipment . Under such circumstances, we have to file a claim against you for the amount of RMB 850 plus inspection fee.
例2 —般情况下,我们生产的每支钢笔都要经过单独检验才能进人仓库,因此很难理解为什么这支被漏检。我们已将您的笔送交质量检査部门检验,并要求做出报告。与此同时,我们正安排为您更换新笔。
译文:Normally each of our pens is individually examined before being passed into store and it is hard to understand why this one escaped examination. We have passed your pen to our quality control department for inspection and a report. Meanwhile, we are arranging to replace your pen with a new one.
这两段句群,在翻译时就是按照原文的表达顺序,逐句翻译,并且表逻辑关系的词也采取直译的方法。
2. 合译法
相对于中文而言,英文在表达过程中可以广泛使用从句、非谓语、介词短语等多种表达方式,因而,根据英文表达的这些特殊性,在翻译时可以打破原文句子之间的相对独立而合译成英文的一句或几句。
例3 若质量和价格适宜,你们的雨衣在这里会有较好的销量。但在正式下订单之前,我们希望先试销。如你们能选一批男、女装雨衣寄来,并同意给我们14天的试销期,我们将会感到很髙兴。在此期限结束时,任何未销出而我们又不准备库存的产品将退还给你们,退货费用由我方负担。
译文:Provided quality and price are satisfactory there are prospects of good sales here, but before placing a firm order we should be glad if you would send us, on fourteen day's approval,a selection of men's and women's raincoats. Any of the items unsold at the end of the period, and which we decide not to keep as stock, would be returned at our expense.
在翻译此段中文时就采取了合译法。将中文的前三句合并翻译成英文的一个复杂长句,使用了三个从句,两个条件句,一个时间状语从句,并且用了一个介词短语。原文第二句是一个长句,翻译时也是利用英文主从句特点翻译。
3. 分译法
分译,就是根据英文表达的需要,可以把中文的一个长句当中的某些短句,单独译成一个或几个英文句子。
例4 近几个月贵公司销售大幅度下降,我们非常关心。开始,我们以为是市场疲软,但仔细研究以后,我们发现,过去这段时间贸易的总趋势是上升的。有可能你方面临困难,我方还不知道,如是这样,我方想知道能否提供什么帮助。我们期望能收到关于问题的详细报告,以及建议我们怎样帮助才能把销售恢复到原来的水平。
译文:We are much concerned that your sales in recent months have fallen considerably. At first we thought this might be due to a slack market, but on looking into the matter more closely, we find that the general trend of trade during this period has been upwards. It is possible that you are facing difficulties of which we are not aware. If so,we would like to know what we could do to help. We, therefore,look forward to receiving from you a detailed report on the situation and suggestions as to how we may help in restoring our sales to their former level.
